In classical Ayurveda, facial skin health is governed by 'Bhrajaka Pitta' (the sub-dosha responsible for skin luster, complexion, and temperature) and 'Rasa Dhatu'. When toxic heat (Pitta) and metabolic impurities (Ama) accumulate in the micro-channels (Srotas) of the facial skin, it manifests as hyperpigmentation, dark patches (Vyanga / Melasma), acne (Yuvanapidaka), and premature skin dullness. Mukhalepam is the authentic classical therapeutic procedure of applying targeted, freshly prepared herbal pastes (Lepas) formulated with potent Varnya (complexion-enhancing) and Raktaprasadana (blood-purifying) herbs such as Lodhra, Manjistha, Raktachandana, Haridra, Sariva, and saffron.
1. Consultation & Skin Prakriti Assessment: Dr. Tejasvi Mulik diagnoses whether your skin condition is Pitta-dominant (burning, redness, inflammatory melasma) or Kapha-dominant (cystic acne, oily congestion). 2. Gentle Cleansing: The face is prepared using fresh warm herbal decoctions (Kashayam) to open skin pores. 3. Mukha Abhyanga: A gentle facial massage using classical Kumkumadi Taila or Nalpamaradi Taila to stimulate facial Marma points and improve micro-capillary blood circulation. 4. Herbal Lepam Application: Freshly pounded herbs mixed with pure goat's milk, aloe vera, or rose water are applied evenly across the face to a precise classical thickness (one-fourth of an inch). 5. Therapeutic Retention: The paste is retained until semi-dry (before it dries completely or cracks, to prevent Vata aggravation). 6. Removal & Toning: Gently wiped with warm herbal water and finished with a calming botanical mist.
