Kati Basti specifically addresses aggravated Apana and Vyana Vata in the lumbosacral region. By pooling warm lipophilic herbal preparations over the lower back, tissue stiffness is resolved, intervertebral spacing is decompressed, and muscle guarding softens. For acute spinal flare-ups or localized disc bulges where a flour ring cannot be sealed, our physicians administer 'Kati Pichu' (continuous medicated oil pad retention) as a targeted companion therapy to deliver sustained transdermal herbal penetration.
A dough ring of herbal gram flour is placed securely over the affected lumbar vertebrae (L3-S1). Warm anti-inflammatory herbal oils are poured and maintained at a constant therapeutic temperature for 35 to 45 minutes. Kati Pichu (Medicated Oil Pad Retention): A thick, sterile folded cotton pad saturated with warm medicated herbal oil (Sahacharadi Taila, Murivenna, or Ksheerabala) is positioned directly over the symptomatic lumbar vertebrae and renewed continuously for 40 minutes. Pichu provides continuous thermal contact, deep muscular relaxation, and rapid decompression of impinged nerve roots.
Lumbar spondylosis, slip disc (disc bulge/herniation), sciatica (Gridhrasi), coccydynia, and postural lumbar strain.
Every multi-session protocol at Karmanya begins with a formal clinical diagnosis and pulse assessment by our BAMS physicians to confirm suitability.
